"unable to connect to agent" Error When Using J2EE Agent To View Schedule From ODI Studio

Trying to view schedule using J2EE agent from ODI Studio fails with:
although the following are working fine:
- Testing agent is successful.
- Running loadplans/mappings on that agent is successful.
- Update schedule on that agent - says schedule update is complete.
- And ONLY scheduling on agent does not work - nothing executes on schedule.
EXADATA/EXALOGIC is used with infiniband ports and client network.
