Last updated on JUNE 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle iPlanet Web Server - Version 7.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When accessing iPlanet Web Server for Microsoft office document (e.g Excel spreadsheet), user is prompted for selecting a certificate (see below) if browser has user/client certificates installed.

Clicking on the OK button a few times on the prompt window will eventually bring up the document. Clicking on the "Cancel" button on the prompt window will be lead to "Window Security" window (see below ) asking for username and password.

If browser doesn't have a user/client certificate installed, user is directly lead to the "Window Security" windows asking for username and password. Providing correct windows login username and password will bring up the document.

The issue happens only under the following conditions:

1. When asked for either "Save", "Save as" or "Open" the MS document, "Open" is selected. There is no issue if "Save" or "Save as" is selected.
2. This happens only with IE browser.  Firefox and Chrome presents no issue.
3. Accessing file types other than Microsoft Office documents has no issue irrespective of the browser being used.
4. This works fine with Apache web server
