Purpose

The page describes some the HTTP requests that ADF Desktop Integration (ADFdi) uses to communicate between client and server. Understanding the details of these requests can be useful when troubleshooting connection issues.

The ADFdi add-in for Excel issues a series of HTTP (or HTTPS) requests when the workbook is opened and the active worksheet gets initialized. Some of these requests are made using an embedded browser, others are made programmatically by the client.

Scope

This article is highly technical. It is aimed at someone troubleshooting a tricky network issue involving ADFdi where other known cases do not apply.

This article is relevant for ADFdi version 5.1. It is not relevant for versions 5.2 and later.
