Unable To Add Users With a Backslash In Their Name To Web Center Portal (Doc ID 2024102.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version 11.1.1.7.0 and later
Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A user with a backslash (the character '\') in the name is unable to log into the portal or be added to portal security.
For example:
Users such as 'sfo\aabcd', 'den\eefgh', 'mia\ablmno'.
The two characters following the backslash are made up of valid hexadecimal numbers, 0-9 and a-f.

When the administrator or moderator tries to look up the user in the picker, the filter may not find and return the user.
For example:
Searching for 'sfo\a' will return the user 'sfo\aabcd', however, 'sfo\aa' will not.
Even if the user is returned in the search, attempting to select them will result in:

"No matching users were found with search string [user]."
