OAM/OAAM Does Not Allow Userid To Contain "+" Symbol

Goal
OAAM11.1.2.2.1
Users are using their email address for the userid and are using the "+" symbol to take advantage of gmails dynamic aliasing feature. User is able to login, but when they are prmpted to change password, they get an error that their password is invalid. Complete log is attached.
userids that fail are of the form userid+test@mail.domain
