EDQ Match Rule Based on Name Metaphone Does Not Yield the Typical Results Expected By the End Users (Doc ID 2101091.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 24, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Enterprise Data Quality - Version 8.1.5 and later

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

An Enterprise Data Quality (EDQ) Match Rule based purely on a name metaphone does not produce results that are expected when, say, searching for names that sound similar.

This behavior is demonstrated when comparing the results produced by the use of the names "Paul" and "Bella." These names both produce the same metaphone: PL. This is confusing for the end-user because they do not sound the same, yet they produce the same metaphone results and are hence seen as a match.
