Java Process Hangs or Freezes on Linux Platform (Doc ID 2152044.1)

Last updated on MARCH 31, 2023

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 1.4.2 to 8
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

A Java process appears to be hung with many threads in BLOCKED or WAITING states.  In several instances, the apparent hang has been cleared when a jstack command is issued against the PID of the hung Java process.  It is not known at this time why the jstack command seems to clear the hang, however there is suspicion it may be related to the "Livelock" condition as described in the Java Tutorials on "Starvation and Livelock".
