Symptoms
When attempting to authenticate using an email address, the following error occurs.
The provided value could not be parsed as a valid distinguished name because character '@' at position # is not allowed in an attribute name
The issue can be reproduced while using ldapsearch to authenticate using an email address instead of a DN.
