OVD 11g Host Details not Saved in LDAP Adapter "LDAPException:malformed(Request2) protocol err" " Unable to discover remote LDAP servers via DNS" (Doc ID 2191142.1)

Symptoms

After configuring a new LDAP Adapter in OVD 11g, the host details are not saved in the adapter configuration even though a successful host verification was completed.
Also error thrown when attempting to view adapter in Data Browser tab "LDAPException:malformed(Request2) protocol err"

OVD diag logs reports the following error

""[2016-10-04T22:18:13.196-04:00] [octetstring] [ERROR] [OVD-60272] [com.octetstring.vde.backend.jndi.<ADAPTER_NAME>.BackendJNDI] [tid: xx] [ecid: <ECID>] Unable to discover remote LDAP servers via DNS for: dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com."

Changes

 Adapter created using the "Use DNS for Auto Discovery" parameter set to Standard or Microsoft
