Can the X509 Module be Changed to Authenticate via "userprincipalname" Instead of "cn" ? (Doc ID 2209504.1)

Goal

Match the AD with CAC card for authentication in OAM's X509 module. X509 module uses "cn" for authentication. But the "cn" in AD does not match with "cn" in CAC card. The "userPrincipalname" in AD matches with "userPrincipalname" in CAC card.
Can we change the X509 module to authenticate via "userprincipalname" instead of "cn" ? If so, how do we do it
