How Coherence Detects It Should Use IMB Driver To Open IMB Socket In Exalogic Platform? (Doc ID 2213348.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 22, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Coherence - Version 12.1.3.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

On Oracle Exalogic, Coherence automatically selects the best reliable transport available for the environment. The default Coherence setup uses the InfiniBand Message Bus (IMB) for service communication (transferring data) and for cluster communication unless SSL is enabled, in which case SDMBS is used. User can use a different transport protocol and check for improved performance. However, user should only consider changing the protocol after following the recommendations given documentation page - Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Recommendations.

imb (default on Exalogic) – InfiniBand message bus (IMB). IMB uses an optimized protocol based on native InfiniBand verbs. IMB is only available for Oracle Exalogic systems and is automatically used as long as TCMP has not been configured with SSL.

Customers are having sometimes runtme coherence process startup issues with IMB driver not loading or not finding in their compute nodes.
