OID 11g 11.1.1.9: Alert Log File is Not Correctly Generated or Does Not Correctly Rotate Depending on the Oidldapd Log File Rotation (Doc ID 2234924.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 30, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version 11.1.1.9.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 11g, the alert{nn}s{PID}-{nnnn}.log is not correctly generated or does not correctly rotate. Which these issues happen depends on the oidldapd{nn}s{PID}-{nnnn}.log file rotation, as outlined below.

Case[A] : If the oidldapd{nn}s{PID}-{nnnn}.log file does not rotate when the LDAP server process is working:

The alert log file does not rotated even if the file size exceeds the maximum log file size setting (attribute: orclmaxlogfilesize).

The following example shows the alert log file size exceeds 4 MB. In that time, the orclmaxlogfilesize value was 1 (MB) by default.

This behavior has been observed in OID 11.1.1.9.160719 on Windows platform.

Of course, the alert log file will be created new if the LDAP server restarts and the PID is changed.
