This can occur will all versions of WebCenter Content 11g and 12c.

When the WCC is configured for OracleTextSearch, some searches work as expected but other searches will fail.

For example, attempting to do a blank quick search or a Search page full search, the search fails.

Or setting specific metadata field values searches fail but setting those same fields with different values work.

The user will get an error message displayed:
