Unable to deploy SOA composites using Enterprise Manager after configuring SSL

After enabling SSL for your environment deployments fail to occur from enterprise manager. In the logs you'll notice the following messages:
Adding sar file - /tmp/dir1793604551233421180tmp/sca_HelloWorldBPMDomainService_rev1.0.jar
INFO: Creating HTTPS connection to host:ppbpm.bpmserver2.bpmdomain.oracle.com, port:61102
SEVERE: Server is most likely down. Please check the server status and make sure it is up.
