An EJB-based JAX-WS Web Service Returns NullPointerException

Symptoms

A test with an EJB based JAX-WS web service consistently fails with NullPointerExceptions.  Here is the stack trace:

Changes

 The problem began upon upgrading to WebLogic version 12.2.x from a previous WebLogic version.
