Selecting an Interface for Multicast Listener does not Honor by coherence.localhost (Doc ID 2321878.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 07, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Coherence - Version 12.2.1.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer is trying to form a cluster using cluster-config-->multicast-listener. Coherence members cannot join each other in spite of specifying "-Dcoherence.localhost" if the machine have two or more interfaces with configured different metric value. It seems that network metric dominates over specifying "-Dcoherence.localhost" for the cluster members in the multicast cluster to honor. The documentation page said that by default, the interface (NIC) of the unicast-listener IP address is used for the multicast socket. Which means -Dcoherence.localhost given to the cluster members should honor while forming a multicast coherence cluster but it is not.
