MOS Downloads of JRE for the MacOS Platform Are Missing .tar.gz File (Doc ID 2397783.1)

Symptoms

The MOS patch bundle for Java SE 8 update 172-b31 for the MacOS platform does not include a .tar.gz file.

However, per the Enhancement JDK-8185703 - "Request 8u144-b31 mac .tar.gz bundle be made available on MOS" - the .tar.gz file is supposed to be included in the MacOS JRE bundle from 8u151 forward, including all BPRs.
The expectation is that the .tar.gz file should be in the JRE 8u172-b31 bundle for MacOS.

The problem can be seen with the following steps:

  1. Download the JRE 8u172-b31 MOS patch for MacOS  (The patch can be accessed via "Supported Java SE Downloads on MOS" (Doc ID 1439822.1)
  2. Unzip the bundle
  3. Open the resulting file folder and notice the only included file is the .dmg file and no .tar.gz file is included
