OHS 12c (12.1.3) Using SSL Crashes With the Error "exit signal Segmentation fault (11)" and Generates Core Dump (Doc ID 2411567.1)

Oracle HTTP Server - Version 12.1.3.0.0 to 12.1.3.0.0 [Release 12c]
Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version 13.2.0.0.0 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-bit)

Symptoms

When using Oracle HTTP Server 12.1.3, OHS crashes and generates core dumps with the below notification in the logs:

[OHS] [NOTIFICATION:16] [OHS-9999] [core.c] [host_id: hostname.domain]
[host_addr: x0.2xx.1x.3x] [pid: 9699814] [tid: 1] [user: oracle1] [VirtualHost: main] child pid 51707916 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)


The issue has only been seen in AIX and Solaris Sparc platforms. It may be in others (but see the solution first).

Use <Note:1812.1>, "Getting a Stack Trace from a CORE file on Unix" to confirm a stack trace like the following:
