OEMM ODI Bridge Poor Performance and Memory Management while Importing a Large Number of Projects (Doc ID 2415351.1)

Symptoms

On Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management (OEMM) 12.2.1.2, while harvesting a large number of ODI projects (200+ projects), the performance is very slow and sometimes takes more than 5 days to complete the import. 

Sometimes, the import may even fail with the error:

MBCM_F0029 java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded
