Custom Framework Portal Showing Error: "Unable to get Portlet Response for Portlet Instance ID" (Doc ID 2416801.1)

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR

Every two days users are receiving Portlet Consumer Error in a custom framework portal.  The log shows:

29-Oct-2017 19:23:34 o'clock CET> <Error> <oracle.portlet.binding> <BEA-000000> <An error has occurred for Portlet Binding <PORTLET_NAME>.
oracle.adf.model.portlet.binding.PortletBindingException: Unable to get portlet response for portlet instance ID /oracle/adf/portlet/<WSRP_PRODUCER>/ap/<PORTLET_NAME> for portlet binding <PORTLET_NAME>_1.

 

Restarting the WC_Spaces managed servers solves the issue for a while but will re-occur. Also clearing the MDS cache fixes the issue temporarily:

Navigate Application Defined MBeans -> oracle.mds.lcm -> Server: <SERVER_NAME> -> Application: <APPLICATION_NAME> -> MDSAppRuntime -> MDSAppRuntime -> Select the Operations tab and press the clearCache hyperlink.
