Template Builder Fails With "CFGFWK-64053: Domain loading error" Trying To Create a Template (Doc ID 2426656.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to create a template from a WebLogic Domain version 12.1.3 using FMW Domain Template Builder version 12.2.X the following error occurs.

ERROR

Fatal Error
(x) A fatal error has occurred:
  java.lang.NullPointerException

[ OK ]


STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Start config_builder.sh from the WebLogic home version 12.2.X.
  e.g.
  
       $ cd <Middleware_Home>/wls_122100/Oracle_Home_1/oracle_common/common/bin
       $ ./config_builder.sh

2. Select to "Create Domain Template".
3. Select to "Use Domain as a Source".
4. On the "Source Location" field navigate to select an existing domain version 12.1.3.
    e.g. <Middleware_Home>/wls_121300/Oracle_Home_1/user_projects/domains/<DomainName>

5. On the "Template Location" field navigate to select to destination folder for the new template.jar file.
    e.g. /path/to/directory/oracle/templates/template.jar

6. Click "Next".

7. A pop-up windows will appear with the following error:

    Fatal Error
    (x) A fatal error has occurred:
         java.lang.NullPointerException

    [ OK ]

8. Click "OK" and the following error is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can click the "+" sign to expand the error message.

    (x) CFGFWK-64053: Domain loading error.
         The Configuration Wizard encountered problems attempting to load the domain you selected:
         Required component home not found for component 'oracle.wls.core.app.server' server '12.1.3.0.0' in the MW_HOME:

         /<Middleware_Home>/wls_122100/Oracle_Home_1.


Due to this issue, users cannot create a domain template.
