Replication into Kafka fails when source table definition changes

Kafka cluster - Confluent Enterprise 4.x with 3 node Confluent Kafka cluster, Schema Registry, Connect brokers, REST API

All works well till the source table undergoes a structural change to the table. Since the Schema Registry definition for the table/topic schema is in variance with the table data stream coming through, the replicat abends.
