SQL Developer 17.4+ Scans Desktop Shortcuts Causing Pop-Up Errors (Doc ID 2473043.1)

Symptoms

SQL Developer scans Desktop shortcuts,and if those shortcuts point to non-existent or non-accessible files, then it causes pop-up errors in Window's environment, which may hinder product usage.

ERROR

Problem with Shortcut

The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'My Desktop.lnk' refers to is
unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available,
and then try again.


This behavior did not exist in versions of SQL Developer older than 17.4.
This is happening during Index Preferences Task.

STEPS:
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Create a shortcut to a file on the desktop.
  2. Delete that target file.
  3. Start SQL Developer.
  4. You will see above error during Index Preferences Task.

Changes

Upgraded to SQL Developer 17.4.  This behavior did not occur in previous versions.
