OUD 11g / 12c - High CPU Observed and Clients Unable to Authenticate or Loss of Service (Doc ID 2629431.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 12, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Unified Directory - Version 11.1.2.3.181016 to 12.2.1.3.221009 [Release 11g to 12c]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer reports that several times a week (morning, afternoon or evening) they have noticed the system 'freezes' and clients applications can no longer make requests.    High CPU can be reported with this issue as well.

It was found that if the system was rebooted that it helps for a period of time, however the issue returns.

Changes

1) OS patching was performed in one or more of the reported Customer issues.   It's unclear if the OS patching actually contributed to the issue or not.

2) In another reported incident, this was patching reported after patching 11g to version 11.1.2.3.181016.

3) In this reported incident, HIGH CPU could be reproduced using an ldapsearch with an invalid attribute name in the searchfilter. This was produced for OUD 11.1.2.3.200625 where in the access log the unindexed search is done on an invalid attribute and either rejecting the search or returning as unindexed with nentries=0.  Example:
