Associated Groups For AD Users Not Returning In Weblogic Console

Symptoms
Active Directory group associations are not being returned by WLS/Adminserver for AD users.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Login to the WLS console.
2. Navigate to users and groups in security.
3. Select an AD user and view the groups tab. It will show NO groups even though there are clearly associations through active directory.
