Calling Web Service over HTTPS Fails with java.net.MalformedURLException (Doc ID 265774.1)

Symptoms


When accessing a Web Service using HTTPS/SSL protocol you get this error:

  java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: https
   void java.net.URL.(java.net.URL, java.lang.String, java.net.URLStreamHandler) URL.java:480
   void java.net.URL.(java.net.URL, java.lang.String)
