Imaging Print Applet Fails to Launch When SSL Is Off-Loaded at the Load Balancer

Symptoms
When SSL is offloaded at a load balancer, the Imaging Print applet fails to launch. The applet appears to rewrite the URL to http://virtualhostname instead of https://virtualhostname.
Due to security requirements, the VIP on the load balancer cannot accept unencrypted traffic (http).
The environment topology is: client (SSL)> load balancer (SSL terminates) > WebLogic Imaging server.
Error in the java console on the client workstation is:
