Symptoms

In Exalogic Virtual racks loaded with hundreds of Guest vServers, issue of High IO on ZFS Storage Appliance is seen intermittently. High IO is observed both on NFSv3 and NFSv4 and seen as coming from multiple Guest vServers.

High IO can be confirmed by looking at the Analytics data on the ZFS Appliance. Analytics Worksheet on ZFS has to be configured as NFSv3/NFSv4 IO Ops broken down by Clients. This will show the overall spike in IO and clients contributing to IO at the time of the issue.

At the time of the issues, there is slowness and performance issues noticed when accessing the Applications running on the Guest vServers.

For each occurrence of high IO seen on the ZFS Storage appliance, we notice that the top Guest vServers shown as contributing to high IO keeps changing.
