Receiving Error "SSO Session is null or invalid" When Direct/Unsolicited Authentication (Doc ID 2774992.1)

Symptoms

When using OAM direct/unsolicited authentication the first call to /oam/server/authentication successfully creates a session as expected. However, the 2nd time the call is made using the same username/password results in the following error:
