Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After applying patch 33691694, Elasticsearch is not starting. No error message is returned during the startup attempt.

The Elasticsearch logs (/<esHome>/esNode/logs/<HOSTNAME>.log>) show:

[<TIMESTAMP>][ERROR][o.e.b.Bootstrap          ] [<HOSTNAME>] Exceptionjava.lang.IllegalStateException: codebase property already set: codebase.log4j-api -> file:<esHome>/elasticsearch/lib/log4j-api-2.17.0.jar, cannot set to file:/<esHome>/elasticsearch/lib/log4j-api-2.16.0.jar

Both the pre and post installation steps from the patch README were followed.

The command wlst.sh updateES.py installES.properties returned:

The Elasticsearch server has been updated successfully
