JSP's not working following installation of OC4J 10.1.2 standalone (Doc ID 296751.1)

Symptoms

After installation you access the default page from the browser,

    http://localhost:8888/

or any other URL targetting a JSP and see the following error:

500 Internal Server Error
OracleJSP: oracle.jsp.provider.JspCompileException: 
Errors compiling:\j2ee\home\application-deployments\default\defaultWebApp\persistence\_pages\\_index.java

In addition, the stdout for the server shows the following error:

05/01/28 11:11:14 IOException in compile: CreateProcess: javac.exe
-J-Xmx1024m @.\javac.params.32316171 error=2
