High Response Times from OSB Java Callout To Coherence Cache

An implementation of a Service Bus API that makes a java callout to a large Coherence Cache. Sometimes to respond to 1000s of rows of data it takes greater times. Since returning such a large data set is not performing, implemented pagination and it could run into 100s of pages unique results per page. How to improve the performance in this case?
