Early in the development and distribution of the Role Management functionality in Oracle Identity Management (OIM), there were a number of problems that required additional logging features.  These features included timestamp/duration information in entry and exit messages, as well as dumping of error stacks when non-fatal errors occurred.   This occurred before the more widely recognized WLS logging (log4j) functionality was mature, and has been left in place and is still accessible today.  If you are troubleshooting issues in the Role area of the product (Role Management, Role Membership), this extra diagnostic functionality may be helpful.
