Login Through Public Portal Returns 404 Not Found Error (Doc ID 3011681.1)

Symptoms

User accesses WebCenter Portal pubic page: http://<SERVERNAME:PORT>/webcenter/portal/<PORTAL_NAME>
User chooses to login and is redirected to: http://<SERVERNAME:PORT>/system/Login.jsp
After submitting credentials, user is redirected to: http://<SERVERNAME:PORT>/portal/<PORTAL_NAME>/pages_home

And the following error is reported: 404 Not Found

If Portal is accessed via generic/default WebCenter Home Page, then no error is reported post authentication.
Default WebCenter Home Page: http://<SERVERNAME:PORT>/webcenter/portal
