"java.lang.SecurityException: Unable to Locate a Login Configuration" when using CustomLoginModule (Doc ID 304772.1)

Symptoms

The application is using a custom LoginModule for its security and is deployed to a custom OC4J instance.
The settings for this custom LoginModule is specified inside the instance's global jazn-data.xml.
This configuration is not being read by OC4J, leading to exception :
 
java.lang.SecurityException: Unable to locate a login configuration
