Using UserTransaction.getStatus( ) Throws NullPointerException (Doc ID 393174.1)

Custom web application uses Spring for transaction handling. When Springs JtaTransactionManager calls

 UserTransaction.getStatus( )

it fails with a NullPointerException.

This resulted in application functionality failure.
