Scenario:
Oracle Internet Directory (OID) had been running fine previously.

Since last restart of server (for nightly backups), although OID executables have the correct ownership and permissions, OID now fails to start.

oidldapd01.log shows error:
2007/01/30:16:10:37 * Main:0 * sgslunlListen: Bind failed on communication endpoint (13)
2007/01/30:16:10:37 * Main:0 * FATAL * main * Dispatcher Process unable to bind to port
2007/01/30:16:10:57 * Main:0 * sgslunlListen: Bind failed on communication endpoint (13)

The $ORACLE_HOME/root.sh has the correct ownership/permissions, and has been run a few times, to no avail.

Also tried following steps in Note 329808.1, to no avail. 

Changes

Eventually it was found that the system's sysadmin had modified the fstab file prior to the server restart, after which the problem surfaced.
