Bulkload Does Not Import Special Characters Correctly (Doc ID 417019.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 23, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version 9.0.4 to 10.1.4.3 [Release 10gR1 to 10gR3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Special characters like German umlauts are not imported correctly using the bulkload utility.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

    1. Have an entry in OID with German umlauts.
    2. Dump the entry into an LDIF file:

      ldifwrite -c <CONNECT_STRING> -b "cn=<USERNAME>,cn=Users,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -f <FILENAME>.ldif

  1. Modify the file somewhat to avoid the duplication error that would result from reloading the entry into OID. For example, change the DN in the first line, and any other related attributes.
  2. Use the bulkload utility to import the <FILENAME>.ldif into OID:

    bulkload.sh -connect <CONNECT_STRING> -restore -check -generate <FILENAME>.ldif
    bulkload.sh -connect <CONNECT_STRING> -restore -load
