Symptoms

Special characters like German umlauts are not imported correctly using the bulkload utility.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
  1. Have an entry in OID with German umlauts.
  2. Dump the entry into an LDIF file:

    ldifwrite -c ASPRD1 -b "cn=xyz,cn=Users,dc=oracle,dc=com" -f xyz.ldif

  3. Modify the file somewhat to avoid the duplication error that would result from reloading the entry into OID. For example, change the DN in the first line, and any other related attributes.

  4. Use the bulkload utility to import the xyz.ldif into OID:

    bulkload.sh -connect ASDEV01 -restore -check -generate xyz.ldif
    bulkload.sh -connect ASDEV01 -restore -load
