PORTLET-CLIENT-DEPLOY.JAR Raises Error LifecycleException: Unable to Find MDS Repository for Portlet Producers (Doc ID 438304.1)

Symptoms

Executing the WebCenter Predeployment Tool (portlet-client-deploy.jar) is raising the error oracle.portlet.client.adapter.adf.deploy.LifecycleException: Unable to find MDS Repository for Portlet  Producers.

Here is an example of the syntax used, and the error stack:

$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java –jar $ORACLE_HOME/adfp/lib/portlet-client-deploy.jar \
-predeploy -source /apps/ears/MyTutorialApplication.ear \
-target /apps/ears/MyTutorialApplicationMD.ear
