Goal

If  SQL Developer is installed on multiple PCs, SQL Developer will need to be updated frequently.  Redeploying it each time (while maintaining the preferences) will be a big hassle and asking every user to download the update is not feasible. 

Storing connection information in a shared directory is a security problem.

How does one set the User Directory outside the SQL Developer install?
