Adding An Additional Node To a LDAP Based Replication Environment Fails With Error Object Already Exists (Doc ID 462447.1)

Symptoms

Adding a new replica node to an LDAP Based Replication environment consisting of several nodes using
"remtool -paddnode"  shows the following error in the remtool.log file.
------------------------------------------------------------
ldap://<replica name of an existing node>:<port> : Failed to add entry
orclagreementid=000016,orclreplicaid=<REPLICA_OF_NEW_NODE>,cn=replication configuration.
Already exists. Object already exists
