How to upgrade the Portal Database to 11g (Doc ID 465968.1)

Last updated on JUNE 30, 2023

Applies to:

Portal - Version 10.1.4.1 to 10.1.4.2 [Release 10gR2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document details the steps to upgrade your Portal database version to 11g.

Scope

This document is intended for Administrators who are responsible for performing the installation and upgrade of the Portal database.

This note only covers one possible scenario for the installation of the database 11g and the database upgrade. For further possibilities, please make sure to completely read the following documentation:

Oracle Database Upgrade Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1)
Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1) - Check the Installation Guide for your platform

Notes

The Oracle Database 11g is now supported with Oracle Application Server 10g.

The Metadata Repository Creation Assistant is incompatible with Database 11g.  Therefore, customers should ensure that the Metadata Repository for AS10gR2 is created on a previous version of the database and then upgrade the database version to 11g.

The Portal version must be 10.1.4.2 or higher before upgrading a Portal database to 11g.

Read more about certification of the 11g database for Oracle Application Server 10g in the following note:
<Note 740417.1> - Oracle Database 11g Certification For Oracle Application Server 10g

The steps in this note were created based on RDBMS version 11.1.x. However some customer already tested the same steps with RDBMS version 11.2.x and the same approach worked fine for them.
