Error 'java.lang.Exception: Failed to parse input' On AIX When Importing SSL Certificate File Into Keystore (Doc ID 473643.1)

Symptoms

The command "$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/keytool -printcert -v -file sert.cer" fails with exception:

keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Failed to parse input

Due to the error, the certificate could not be imported in to the keystore. It works fine when reading/importing the same certificate using the keytool from JDK 1.4.2.
The problem was specific to JDK 1.5.0 version shipped with Oracle AS installation.

The used version is

java version "1.5.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build pap32dev-20060511 (SR2))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 AIX ppc-32 j9vmap3223-20060504 (JIT enabled)
