Error Retrieving Database SID When Upgrading OracleAS Identity Management 9.0.4 to 10.1.2
(Doc ID 743670.1)
Last updated on JULY 10, 2024
Applies to:
Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version 9.0.4.0.0 to 10.1.2.0.2 [Release AS10g to AS10gR2]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Oracle Application Server 10g Enterprise Edition - Version: 9.0.4.0.0 to 10.1.2.0.2
Symptoms
When attempting to upgrade a 9.0.4 Identity Management (IM) oracle home from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2.0.2 the upgrade fails in the initial dialogue phase checking the OID entries for the Metadata Repository (MR) with the following message displayed in a pop up window:
Error:*** Alert: Install has detected the following errors in your selected Oracle Application Server (9.0.4) Infrastructure home:
Error retrieving database SID. Your host's /var/opt/oracle/oratab file may either be missing or contains an invalid SID:ORACLE_HOME entry.
Changes
Oracle Identity Management was originally installed as a part of a standard OracleAS 10g Rel 1 (9.0.4) Infrastructure (i.e OracleAS Metadata Repository and Oracle Identity Management co-located in a single Oracle Home). A decision was made thereafter to move the standard Metadata Repository objects from the seeded 9.0.1.4 database into an Oracle Server 9iR2 (9.2) database - leaving just the Identity Management component in the original Infrastructure 9.0.4 home.
