Purpose

In a WebLogic Portal/WebLogic Platform (WLP) 8.1 Clustered Domain, if the cluster is not configured correctly and/or the Portal application component and/or resource targeting is not correct the application's behavior is unpredictable. If you are running WebLogic Portal in a clustered environment and you are experiencing any issues you should read this support pattern. Regardless of whether or not the application is experiencing issues, the cluster needs to be configured correctly and the targeting needs to be correct.  The application may actually appear to run fine for a period of time but issues can arise at any time and manifest themselves in various ways due to the unique nature of each application, how it is ultimately used and the environment in which it runs.
