General Optical Platter Backup Question About Using ABU (Doc ID 779978.1)

Oracle Imaging and Process Management - Version 7.6.2.0.0 to 10.1.3.6 [Release Stellent to 10gR3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This document answers common questions about ABU (Automated Backup Utility).

1. In prior versions of Acorde/IPM, the platter backups were done using eBackup.  This worked well with a single jukebox system with platters backing up to an external standalone drive. Since ABU replaced eBackup, the backup seems to work better with a dual jukebox setup. Is it common for customers to use an external stand alone drive for the backups?

2. There are times when the platter is unable to be ejected because IPM has the disc mounted. The Services have to be stopped to dismount the platter so it can be ejected.  Is there a way to dismount the platter without restarting the services?

3. When running partial backups each week, the Storage tool in the IPM client must be opened to view the next sector information for both the Master and the Backup platters.  Is there any other way to view this information?
