Symptoms

Running reports from Oracle Forms using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT and WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT built-in on High Availability environment are failing intermittent with the following error:

Rep-51002 Bind To Reports Server <Servername>

** Both mid-tier servers are on the same subnet

rwdiag.sh on one mid-tier sometimes display Reports Server from the other mid-tier.

<server1> rwdiag.sh -findAll

Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14005

(1) Name = rep_forms_server1: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server1>

<server2> rwdiag.sh -findAll

Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14005

(1) Name = rep_forms_server2: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server2>

2 Minutes later

<server1> rwdiag.sh -findAll

Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14005

(1) Name = rep_forms_server1: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server1>
(2) Name = rep_forms_server2: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server2>

<server2> rwdiag.sh -findAll

(1) Name = rep_forms_server1: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server1>
(2) Name = rep_forms_server2: Type = server : Host = <hostname_server2>

Another scenario could be a non HA environment where Reports Server is being detected some times by rwdiag.sh.

Example

>rwdiag.sh -find <reports server name>

------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14022

'<reports server name>' found in the network

Time taken - 23 milliseconds

Name = <reports server name> : Type = server : Host = <hostname>

2 minutes later:

> rwdiag.sh -find <reports server name>

Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14022

REP-50504 '<reports server name>' not found in the network

or

> rwdiag.sh -findAll
