ODI Designer Demo will not Allow Login (Doc ID 785585.1)

Symptoms

After installation of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) on Windows Vista, attempts to start the demo with startdemo.bat raises the three demo command windows and the demo database looks to be started, starting Designer and attempting to log-in fails with an error similar to the one below.

 

Looking at the $<ODI_HOME>\demo\hsql directory the lock files (*.lck) are not created in that directory upon start-up of the demo, and checking the command windows started for the demo you see the following:
