Input Format Using Pound Signs Not Working for Date Field in Capture

Symptoms
An input format of ##-##-#### for a date field in the indexing profile is converting the selected date into a value other than a date. This value worked for an input mask with a previous version of Capture, but does not work for an input format in version 10g.
Example:
Selected date from calendar popup: 6/25/2009. Clicking off of the index field, the date of 6/25/2009 becomes "-3-9989".
