How to Increase the Attribute Character Limit in OIDDAS (Doc ID 881413.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 14, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version: 10.1.4.0.1 to 10.1.4.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

By default, user and group attribute size limits in OIDDAS are 256 characters, except for multi-line single-value attributes, which are 1024. Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary to increase the size limits. This is configurable in OID 10.1.4.x.

The following error, seen when editing an attribute in OIDDAS, is evidence of a problem caused by an attribute value that exceeds the DAS attribute character limit:

Exceed the Maximum number of characters : <attribute display name>

Note: This is a DAS limit, not an LDAP limit, therefore these changes do not affect using other LDAP tools such as Oracle Directory Manager.
